The Single-Column ATS Resume Template (2026)
This is the layout to use when you are not sure which one to use. It is a web port of the LaTeX resume that engineers, students and academics have been passing around for a decade, and it is deliberately plain.
It works because it does the dull things right: one column, standard section headings, real selectable text rather than an image, and no tables, sidebars or graphics for a parser to trip over. Full name, a professional email, phone, city, and one or two live links (LinkedIn, GitHub, or portfolio). Keep it as plain text in the header — no photo, no icons trapped in a table cell that an ATS can't read.
Professional summary
Two to three lines stating your role, years of experience, core strengths, and one headline result. Mirror the job title from the posting so the ATS matches it immediately.
Experience
The core of the template. Lead every bullet with an action verb and a measurable outcome — revenue, %, users, time saved. Company, title, location, and dates go on clean single lines the parser reads left-to-right.
Education
Degree, institution, graduation year, and honours or GPA if strong. Freshers should place this above experience; experienced candidates keep it below.
Skills
A compact, categorised list (languages, frameworks, tools) using the exact keywords from the job post. This is the single most-scanned block for ATS keyword matching, so keep it accurate and specific.
Projects & extras
Optional but powerful for students and career-changers: 2–4 projects with a one-line result and a link. Certifications, publications, and awards also slot in cleanly as their own headings.
