Top 20 ATS optimized resume templates for 2026
Every design here is checked against the five things that actually break a parser: layout tables, words baked into pictures, text floated out of the reading order, section names an ATS won't recognise, and column count. Nothing you write is lost between your PDF and the software reading it. Finish the sections our checker grades and the score lands in the 98–100 band whichever template you pick. 15 are single-column, 5 are two-column, and every card says which.

What makes a resume template ATS optimized
Every builder claims it. These are the five checks we mean by it, run against each template's own rendered output rather than asserted. Open any template and its page shows the result, cautions included.
A parser flattens the page into a single stream of text. 15 of these templates are one column, so that stream comes out in the order you wrote it.
Nothing is positioned by table cells, which is the most common reason a job title ends up attached to the wrong employer.
Every word is text rather than part of a picture, including the contact line. That is where design-led templates most often hide an email inside an icon.
Experience, Education, Skills, Projects. Invented headings do not map onto the fields an applicant tracking system files them into.
No text is pinned to a fixed spot on the page, the other common way reading order gets scrambled between your PDF and the parser.
Layout is only half of it. The other half is what you wrote, which is what the ATS score checker grades, and the reason a template can cost you points but never earn them.

ATS resume template questions
What is an ATS optimized resume template?
One whose layout survives text extraction. An applicant tracking system does not see your page. It sees the text it can pull out of the PDF, and a template is ATS optimized when that extraction returns the same words in the same order you wrote them: one reading order, no layout tables, no text baked into images, section names the system recognises, and nothing floated out of flow. Those are the five checks every template here is measured against, and each template's page shows its own result.
Do these templates get a 98–100 ATS score?
They are built for that band, and the detail matters: our checker grades what you wrote, not the design. Sections, metrics, action verbs, keywords, length, voice. A template cannot add points to that. It can only cost you them by mangling the text on the way out, which is what the five layout checks exist to prevent. Fill in every section the checker grades and the number lands in the 98–100 band whichever of the 20 you pick. The worked example rendered inside each card scores 94 as written, with three fixable gaps still in it.
What is a good ATS score for a resume in 2026?
Above 85 is strong. Below 70 usually means something structural: a missing contact field, no dates on a role, or bullets with no numbers in them. The score is not a number any employer sees. It estimates how cleanly your resume parses and how well it reads against what a recruiter would search for.
Are two-column resume templates ATS friendly?
Mostly, and with one caveat we state rather than hide. 5 of the 20 templates here are two-column. They pass four of the five layout checks; the caution is reading order, because an older parser can read a sidebar before the column beside it. If you are applying through a large employer's own system and want the safest option, pick one of the 15 single-column layouts. Every card says which it is.
Which resume template should I use in 2026?
Start from your field rather than the design. A single-column layout with a summary, dated roles and a grouped skills block fits almost every office role. Pick a two-column one when you have a short work history and want the space filled. The gallery filters by profession and by column count, and each template names the roles it was built for.
Can I edit these resume templates in Word?
These are built and exported in the browser, and the PDF keeps every word as selectable text. Three separate templates are sold as editable Word .docx files if you would rather work there, listed on the Word resume templates page.
